Patrick Small
1954 - 2023

From his childhood, Patrick had an amazing gift for creating work in 3-D.  Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, he worked at various times as a model maker, ceramicist, restorer of architectural antiques and installer of rock and roll memorabilia - just a few highlights of his varied career.  He studied Fine Art (Ceramics) at the University of Leeds - Bretton Hall campus, and silversmithing at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.

This website is an archive for some of Patrick’s ceramics, woodcarving and jewellery.  Most of his work is now privately owned but some pieces are still available to buy through the Etsy shop PatrickSmallDesigns and also at Flux Gallery, Cotham Hill, Bristol.

Towards the end of his life, Patrick had begun to acknowledge and embrace the uniqueness of his work.  He could switch from realism to abstraction in his sculpture and ceramics, and from highly wearable to highly experimental in his jewellery.  No two piece were ever quite the same.

Patrick loved sharing ideas and contacts with other makers and craftspeople.  He was a great friend to many people and is very much missed by everyone who knew him, but his work lives on and will continue to bring pleasure for years to come.
